Strategies in Teaching

It has observed that judgment on qualities of an effective teacher are purely subjective estimates and subject to variations; the test of qualities commonly associated with teaching successfully are not yet well grounded, and measures of pupil change are best practical difficulties. There is a need for developing objective criteria with which various measures of teaching efficiently may be validated. The search is on, and fresh means are being explored. The process of determining the qualities of a successful teaching is still in its infancy and more creative investigation with skilled condition is needed to bring out outstanding results. Whatever has been done is important by way of initial exploration, but the right approach may still be far away. It is not difficult to draw up a list of qualities that characterize an effective teaching by pooling the opinion of educational experts, parents, guardains and principals. Such a comprehensive collection of judgment is bound to help in formulation a list of qualities which reflect the opinions of a variety of people and can be acceptable to all. A good teacher must be good in every sphere of life from character to teaching. In identifying the personality traits of an effective teacher we have to realize that there are certain characteristics of a genral nature which may be common to all professionals. These qualities are essential for a normal, healthy and balanced individual, but there are qualities specifically required for success in teaching. For a successful teacher, zeal to gain the teaching profession, intelligence and aptitude is very important.

There are many ways and methods needed for a teacher to make his/her teaching effective. But I would like to mention two ways by which a teacher in the college can become effective in his teaching. A teacher should develop personal relationships with the students to know them as individuals. He should develop personal rapport with the students so that they feel that somebody is taking interest in them. This kind of approach on the part of teacher will definitely motivate the students to play attention towards his teaching will definitely obey the way he instructs them. Students be given many opportunities to communicate and listening carefully to them can prove valuable and of greater significance. Inter personal relationships requires a dialogue  and a two-way communication. Teachers ought to know when to clarity content or give emotional support to various kinds of students.

It is important for college teachers to form personal relationships with students at the extremes of academic ability. Identifying such students is rarely easy, but the level of complexity and abstract thinking in class comments and in examination provides useful clues. Especially Bright students especially, are vulnerable to boredom if they do not find lectures intellectually challenging. Besides delivering stimulating lectures, teachers should encourage them to think independently or creatively about the subject. They will welcome recognition of their talent and encouragement to read advanced works on their own. It is the duty of the teacher to create curiously and pleasure, so that they are able to promote their talent and knowledge.

College teachers hold considerable power over the students; they should ensure that it is used only to achieve educational objectives. In the present Era of knowledge explosion, education is general and higher education in particular has assumed a very vital strategic importance in almost every society. In the industry, oriented society, there will be need for more competent human resources. For achieving this objective, teachers constitute a very important part of the system. The quality of teachers and the quality of teaching will greatly influence the quality of the system. Every teacher has strong needs for achievement and success. Many of them have brilliant academic records and have been trained to teach but generally are not able to come to grips with the intricacies of teaching. And when they feel that students are not learning as much as expected, they feel threatened. They also fail to understand the emotional that works on the motivation of the students and remain in doubt whether the motivation is a desire for approval from the teacher or an attempt to meet their own personal standards and needs.

There can be distinct sets of skill required to become a good teacher. The first is speaking ability. This includes skill not only in delivering clear and intellectually exciting lectures but also in leading discussions. The second is interpersonal skills. Such skills allow one to create the sort of warm relationship with one's students that would motivate them to work independently. To become an excellent teacher one must be outstanding in one of the sets of skills and at least competent in the other. The clarity with which a teacher imparts information is important
